Psalm 1
The full text of Psalm 1 in the Trinity Bible Version — clear modern English, translated from the original Hebrew. Free to read.
1 Happy is the one who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stand in the path of sinners,
nor sit in the seat of scoffers.
2 Rather, his delight is in the instruction of the LORD,
and on his instruction he murmurs day and night.
3 He is like a tree planted beside streams of water,
which gives its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither—
all that he does prospers.
4 Not so the wicked—
they are like chaff that the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6 For the LORD knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.
Translation notes (4)

- Psalm 1:2a The Hebrew word 'torah' is translated as "instruction" rather than "law" to preserve its broader semantic range.
- Psalm 1:2b The Hebrew word 'yehgeh' means to murmur or mutter, suggesting audible meditation rather than silent thought.
- Psalm 1:6a The Hebrew word 'yodea' means "knows" and implies intimate involvement, not mere awareness.
