A song. A psalm of the sons of Korah. For the music director. According to Mahalath Leannoth. A maskil of Heman the Ezrahite.
1 O LORD, God of my salvation,
I cry out before you day and night.
2 Let my prayer come before you;
incline your ear to my cry.
3 For my soul is full of troubles,
and my life draws near to Sheol.
4 I am counted among those who go down to the pit;
I have become like a man without strength,
5 set loose among the dead,
like the slain who lie in the grave,
whom you remember no more,
and who are cut off from your hand.
6 You have put me in the lowest pit,
in the darkest depths.
7 Your wrath lies heavy upon me,
and with all your waves you overwhelm me. Selah
8 You have removed my companions far from me;
you have made me an abomination to them.
I am shut in and cannot escape.
9 My eye wastes away from affliction;
I call to you, O LORD, every day;
I spread out my hands to you.
10 Do you work wonders for the dead?
Do the departed rise to praise you? Selah
11 Is your faithful love declared in the grave,
your faithfulness in Abaddon?
12 Are your wonders known in the darkness,
or your righteousness in the land of oblivion?
13 But I cry out to you, O LORD;
in the morning my prayer meets you.
14 O LORD, why do you reject my soul?
Why do you hide your face from me?
15 Afflicted and close to death from my youth,
I bear your terrors—I am desperate.
16 Your fierce wrath has swept over me;
your terrors destroy me.
17 They surround me like water all day long;
they close in on me together.
18 You have removed from me lover and friend;
my companions are darkness.
