All of Isaiah KJV

1 Seven women shall take hold of one man on that day, saying:
We will eat our own bread
and wear our own clothes—
only let us be called by your name;
take away our disgrace.

2 On that day the branch of the LORD shall be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the land shall be the pride and splendor of the survivors of Israel.

3 And whoever is left in Zion and remains in Jerusalem shall be called holy—everyone who has been recorded for life in Jerusalem,

4 when the Lord has washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion and rinsed the bloodstains of Jerusalem from her midst by a spirit of judgment and a spirit of burning.

5 Then the LORD will create over the whole site of Mount Zion and over her assemblies a cloud by day—and smoke—and the brightness of a flaming fire by night; for over all the glory there shall be a canopy.

6 And there shall be a booth for shade by day from the heat, and for refuge and shelter from the storm and the rain.

Translation notes (6)
  1. Isaiah 4:1a The Hebrew phrase אֱסֹף חֶרְפָּתֵנוּ (esof cherpatenu) means 'remove our reproach,' referring to the disgrace of being unmarried or childless in that culture.
  2. Isaiah 4:2a Heb. צֶמַח יהוה — 'branch/sprout of the LORD'; debated whether messianic or agricultural. Cf. Jer 23:5, Zech 3:8.
  3. Isaiah 4:3a The Hebrew phrase כָּל הַכָּתוּב לַחַיִּים (kol ha'katuv la'chayim) means 'everyone written or inscribed for life,' referring to the concept of a book of life.
  4. Isaiah 4:4a The Hebrew phrase בְּרוּחַ מִשְׁפָּט וּבְרוּחַ בָּעֵר (b'ruach mishpat u'v'ruach ba'er) means 'by a wind or spirit of judgment and a wind or spirit of burning.' The Hebrew word רוּחַ (ruach) carries multiple meanings, including 'wind,' 'breath,' and 'spirit.'
  5. Isaiah 4:5a Heb. וּבָרָא — 'and he will create' (same verb as Gen 1:1); new exodus imagery with pillar of cloud/fire.
  6. Isaiah 4:6a The Hebrew word סֻכָּה (sukka) means 'booth' or 'shelter.' This echoes the vulnerable booth mentioned in Isaiah 1:8, but here it is transformed into a symbol of divine protection.
