All of Psalms KJV

A Miktam of David.

1 Preserve me, O God,
for in you I take refuge.

2 I say to the LORD, 'You are my Lord;
I have no good apart from you.'

3 As for the holy ones in the land,
they are the excellent ones,
in whom is all my delight.

4 The sorrows of those who run after another god shall multiply;
their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out,
nor will I take their names on my lips.

5 The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup;
you hold my lot.

6 The measuring lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.

7 I bless the LORD who gives me counsel;
even in the night my heart instructs me.

8 I have set the LORD always before me;
because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.

9 Therefore my heart is glad and my whole being rejoices;
my flesh also dwells secure.

10 For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol,
nor let your faithful one see the pit.

11 You make known to me the path of life;
in your presence there is fullness of joy;
at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Translation notes (5)
  1. Psalm 16:2a The Hebrew here is difficult to translate; it literally means "my good is not upon/above you."
  2. Psalm 16:3a The original text of this verse is difficult; it possibly means, "the saints who are in the land — the noble ones — all my delight is in them."
  3. Psalm 16:7a The Hebrew word kilyotay literally means "my kidneys," which was considered the seat of deep conscience or intuition.
  4. Psalm 16:9a The Hebrew word kevodi literally means "my glory"; it likely refers to my inner self or soul.
  5. Psalm 16:10a This can also be translated as "corruption" (shachat); compare Acts 2:27 and 13:35, where this word is applied to Christ's resurrection.
