Bible verses about
forgiveness

Forgiveness stands at the centre of the gospel — God’s mercy toward us, and the mercy we are then called to extend. Scripture shows how completely God forgives the repentant, and how seriously he means for us to forgive others. These King James verses speak grace into guilt and resentment alike.

Questions, answered plainly

What does the Bible say about forgiveness?

The Bible promises that "if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins" (1 John 1:9), and that God removes our transgressions "as far as the east is from the west" (Psalms 103:12). It also commands us to forgive others: "forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you" (Ephesians 4:32).

How many times should I forgive according to the Bible?

When Peter asked, Jesus answered, "I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven" (Matthew 18:22) — meaning forgiveness should be without limit.
