Bible verses about
prayer

Prayer in Scripture is the open line between God and his people — to be done always, with confidence, and without ceasing. The Bible teaches both how to pray and the promise that God hears. These King James verses gather its words on prayer.

Questions, answered plainly

What does the Bible say about prayer?

The Bible calls believers to "Pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17) and to bring everything to God in prayer (Philippians 4:6). It promises, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find" (Matthew 7:7), and that God hears "all that call upon him in truth" (Psalms 145:18).

How should I pray according to the Bible?

Jesus taught his disciples to pray simply and sincerely — "when thou prayest, enter into thy closet" (Matthew 6:6) — and gave the Lord’s Prayer as a model (Matthew 6:9). Scripture adds that "the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 5:16).
